BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, September 18, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Last week’s Pick was a mess—unruly horse in the post parade and another left at the gate and only at the last minute were we saved by our gimmick horse Mr Rum Runner who got up to complete a nice exacta. On the good news front sixteen BreezeFigs juveniles broke their maidens last week at: Belmont (BreezeFigs exacta), Delaware (two, including a BreezeFigs trifecta), Evangeline, Finger Lakes, Gulfstream (five, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Kentucky Downs, Laurel, Louisiana Downs, Monmouth (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta) and Penn National. Three-year-olds won at Gulfstream, Laurel and Remington. Today’s card is loaded with caveats on the 2-year-olds (too many slow first-timers) so we’re throwing in a bonus because of that, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-Year-Olds:
Churchill Downs, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)
Three BreezeFigs colts in here with the first-timer, Search Engine, a stick out. He coasted to a nine-over-Par Group 1 performance at OBSAPR with a 24.80 foot stride length (SL), two-thirds of a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong—and brought a $625k final bid. On the same day Sacred Midnight tossed in a five-under-Par Group 4 ticket with a 23.88 SL, do the math with that posted by Search Engine. Legendary Lore posted a one-under-Par Group 3 profile at OBSMAR where his 24.25 foot SL was about even with other colts that day at a quarter mile. Both Sacred Midnight and Legendary Law showed nothing in their debuts so the play here is to key Search Engine.
Golden Gate, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Synthetic)
Ascendancy is 9-to-5 in the morning line and even though on the rail she should lord it over this crowd based on her two-over-Par Group 1 performance at OBSAPR which featured a 24.46 foot SL, more than half-a-foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. She was scratched (SCR) before the auction began but obviously there’s some talk about her around the place. Key her.
3-Year-Olds:
Gulfstream Park, 6th Race, Maiden Claiming ($12,500), 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
We rarely, if ever, go down this low on the scale but this was just too tempting. A P Rock and Special Meister come out of last year’s OBSJUN sale with similar profiles and might be worth tossing into some gimmicks. Special Meister is making his debut backed by a two-over-Par Group 2 ticket where his 23.11 foot SL was two-thirds of a foot shorter than average for colts that day at a furlong. He was not sold (RNA) on a final bid of $16k. A P Rock posted a one-over-Par Group 2 ticket where his 25.03 foot SL was a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. He was then scratched (SCR) from the sale. He stopped on a dime in his debut last month at the MC35 level. These two might be worth watching on the board because you never know what can happen at this level. Good luck!
