BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Last week’s Pix were in the half-a-loaf category. Our final 3-year-old Pick of the year, Ponte Vedra Sky, buried her field by nine lengths and paid a delicious $24. On the other hand, the juvenile Pick was bizarre: Two BreezeFigs fillies, La Vitesse and Mistressofthenight, completed the exacta and trifecta respectively, but the one we liked (Jilly) was green as grass and was disqualified, and the other one we liked (Aura Rose) pulled up in the stretch. Meanwhile, 10 BreezeFigs juveniles broke their maidens during the week and four won stakes races. The maiden wins came at Del Mar (where three others won stakes), Gulfstream (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Indiana (exacta), Kentucky Downs (plus a stakes win), Parx (a clean sweep of all the gimmicks) and Saratoga (four). Saturday's 2-year-old card is loaded but sorely lacking in first-time starters that we like (that’s the purpose of this column). But we found one buried in the pile, and it may be of interest, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Louisiana Downs, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight (Louisiana-Breds), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Stuck on the rail and 30-to-1 in the morning line, Cotton Up might be able to get into a gimmick or two if he gets off well and doesn’t get burned in the pace. He had a perfectly respectable four-over-Par Group 2 profile at OBSAPR where his 23.75 foot stride length was an eighth-of-a-foot shorter than average for colts that day at a furlong. Still, he might be suitable here and you should pay attention to the board. Good luck!
