BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, October 9, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our 2-year-old Pick last week showed promise in her debut and managed to fill out the Super, but both of our 3-year-old Pix showed speed but no quality, so there you go. There were 17 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens who won during the week, quite a haul, indeed, at: Century Mile, Churchill (two), Gulfstream (five, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Laurel (two), Parx (BreezeFigs trifecta), Penn, Remington (two), Santa Anita (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), and Woodbine. The 3-year-olds are still knocking out maiden wins, this time a half-dozen at Gulfstream, Laurel, Santa Anita, Thistledown (two) and Woodbine. No first-timers today on the 3-year-old card but we got lucky with two baby races on the opening Saturday card at Keeneland, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-Year-Olds:
Keeneland, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Combat Medal and The Judge and Jury both put up decent tickets at EASMAY at different distances. Combat Medal scored a three-over-Par Group 1 performance with a 24.53 foot stride length (SL), about a fifth of a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. The Judge and Jury posted an even-Par Group 2 ticket with a basically average 24.06 foot SL for colts at a quarter mile. Both of them have good connections in a pricey race and should be gimmick plays at the very least.
Keeneland, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Another one from EASMAY comes in here with two profiles. Switzer breezed a quarter mile at OBSMAR and posted an even-Par Group 2 ticket with a 23.09 foot SL, which was a foot and a quarter shorter than average that day, and then failed to sell (RNA) on a final bid of $165k. He came back at EASMAY at a furlong and posted another even-Par Group 2 profile but this time at a furlong where his 24.63 foot SL was about a fifth of a foot longer than average. He’s a definite gimmick chance in this second division of a pricey maiden class. Good luck!
