BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, October 30, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
While our Pick last week decided she really didn’t want to participate, it is ironic that our Pick of the week before, Where’s Joey, slipped off to Parx and broke his maiden during the week easily. He was one of three 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens to win during the week—the other two were at Belmont and Gulfstream. The juvenile maidens piled up 15 victories, six of them kicking off BreezeFigs exactas (one each at Belmont, Delaware, Gulfstream, Keeneland, Parx and Santa Anita). The wins were at Belmont (three), Delaware (three), Gulfstream (four), Keeneland (three), Parx and Santa Anita. Today’s cards are likely to be affected by the weather, especially in the Northeast, which leaves turf racing up in the air. In addition, there are very few first timers on either card that have the kind of profiles that look decent, so today’s Pick is a bit of a shot in the dark, appropriate for the Halloween weekend—Boo!—see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
2-Year-Olds:
Gulfstream Park, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight), 1 1/16 Miles (Synthetic)
This looks to be a very weak bunch of fillies with both BreezeFigs graduates potentially able to get a piece. First-timer Spread Joy comes out of EASMAY with a seven-over-Par Group 1 profile which featured a 25.01 foot stride length (SL), a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. Despite that and the fact that she is by Tapit, she brought only $47k in the ring—we don’t know why but she’s working OK and is tabbed at 5-to-1 in a field where the longshot is 8-to-1. Slipping in at 3-to-1 is Castle Born, whose ticket at OBSMAR was a seven-under-Par Group 3 effort with a 21.60 foot SL, more than two feet below average for fillies that day at a quarter mile. She brought $5k in the ring but has a couple of runner-up finishes behind her in slow races on the turf. Neither of these fillies look like they might be keys but in a short field the board might tell you otherwise. Good luck!
