Breezefigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, October 24, 2020 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
At least one of our truly underestimated gimmick Pix saved us last week as Thinking destroyed the field for a very generous ten bucks return. She was one of a dozen BreezeFigs 2-year-olds to break their maidens last week, the rest at: Belmont, Charles Town, Golden Gate, Indiana, Laurel (two), Parx, Presque Isle, Santa Anita (two) and Woodbine. Four 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens broke into the winner’s circle at Finger Lakes, Gulfstream West, Laurel and Parx. Today’s cards offer some interesting plays, and we’ve got three of them for you to consider, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
3-Year-Olds
Gulfstream Park West, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Blacktein came out of last year’s OBSAPR sale with an even-Part Group 2 ticket and a 24.27 foot stride length (SL), which was average for fillies that day at a furlong. She’s not the best mover in the world--she was scratched (SCR) from the sale after the breeze--but has had more than a year to get her act together. Watch the board and use her in gimmicks.
2-Year-Olds
Remington Park, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, One Mile (Dirt)
Two colts with virtually identical BreezeFigs profiles at separate sales are making their debuts here, but there is a world of difference in their quality. Underdog hammered out a six-over-Par Group 1 ticket at OBSJUN with a 25.05 foot SL, nearly three-quarters of a foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. E Z Tapit posted a six-over-Par Group 1 number at EASMAY with a 25.09 foot SL, about the same longer-than-average at a furlong. But he’s a Tapit and was sold for a pittance, so there’s a clue about him, but Underdog looks genuine, pounce.
Santa Anita, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Willy the Cobbler posted a four-over-Par Group 1 ticket at OBSMAR where his 26.13 foot SL which was more than a foot and a half longer than average that day for colts at a quarter mile. But he was not sold (RNA) at 52k. He came back at OBSJUN with a one-over-Par Group 2 performance which featured a 25.13 foot SL, more than a foot and a third longer than average for colts that day at a furlong—but he was scratched (SCR) after that breeze. He is joined by first-timer Royal Orb who breezed on the same day and distance as Willy the Cobbler and turned in a three-over-Par Group 1 effort with a 25.34 foot SL, three-quarters of a foot longer than average but three-quarters of a foot shorter than Willy the Cobbler. We’d give the latter more weight in the gimmick plays and might even make him a key if the board hints it could work. Good luck.
