BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, November 24th

Bob Fierro|Nov 23, 2007
Our lone pick last week got slammed out of the gate and lost all chance, but there was a solid 1-2-3 finish by first-timers at Aqueduct that paid $66 for the exacta and $216 in the trifecta right there on the BreezeFigs card -- National Pride ($11.80 to win), Saratoga Russell, and Mint Lane in the fourth race. There was also an eminently playable Stormy Miracle ($10.40) in the ninth the same day, so there's opportunity all around on any BreezeFigs card.

Remember, our rules still hold about BreezeFigs "qualified" runners: You can get a good idea of what "qualified" BreezeFigs horses are by checking out and downloading files there. Remember, keep stride length (SL) in mind when handicapping from the BreezeFigs sheet and take advantage of all the tips that we provide on those sheets as well.

This week's card is loaded with maiden, allowance and stakes races, but here are two especially intriguing maiden races we'd like to give you. Good luck!

Churchill Downs, , Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs

On a card devoted to 2-year-olds, this maiden race will unveil some promising colts that may be better in the long run than some in the stakes. Six of the entrants are BreezeFigs horses, all of them earned Group 2 status at the sale where each breezed, and four of them are first-time starters. The two best on paper are Denis of Cork and Our Honor, each of whom earned a 70 BF and showed a SL 1.59 feet longer than average for colts at his respective sale. We tip the scale here to Denis of Cork because he was simply one the of the most impressive colts we saw at the sales this year. But if he needs a race, he will have a major tussle from Our Honor and Stungbythestorm, who ran creditably in his debut, and perhaps also-eligible Political Empire, who was inconsistent at FTFFEB in two breezes but showed a decent SL (he was bought back for 190k). Truth Rules, a 450k RNA, has had a couple of chances and may clunk up in the gimmick.

Laurel, , Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs

Five BreezeFigs horses in here, all first-timers, four out of the same sale(EASMAY), and four with very good shots. My Money and Sailaway Pops were almost identical in terms of BreezeFigs at the 1/8 mile, but My Money had a longer SL. Mizzou Hurricane breezed on the same day as Sailaway Pops and had a much longer SL but lower, marginal BF, which means he might have been slowing down (he was a 22k RNA). Cap 'N Jack, a 14k RNA, didn't have the goods at 1/4 mile. Montano, who comes out of OBSMAR with a very decent bunch of numbers all around and who's a full brother to the speedy Chapel Royal, has a very solid shot here. My Money and Montano look like solid straight bets here, and you can mix and match some of the rest. Good luck!
