BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 7th, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Not much we can say about our Pick last week other than he simply didn’t run well. However, a dozen other 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens did run well enough to win last week: Five at Gulfstream (including a BreezeFigs exacta), two at Los Alamitos, and one each at Belmont, Golden Gate, Penn National, Sunland and Woodbine. In addition, one of the three BreezeFigs 2-year-olds to start also won, Harlands Thunder at Churchill Downs on Thursday, paying $22.40, which means six have started and three have won so far. Keep a look out for them. As for today, it’s a serendipitous event—our Pick is on the Derby Day card, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Churchill Downs, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Two of the three BreezeFigs entrants in this race are making their debuts, one of which, Jazzy Times, is going to take money if the morning line tells us anything. He posted a four-over-Par Group 2 profile at OBSMAR last year with a 24,63 foot stride length (SL), which was a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. He sold for mucho bucks (460k) and the connections will drive the odds. However, we would also like to put in a gimmick plug here for Prado’s Smokin, who was scratched (SCR) after posting an even-Par Group 2 ticket at EASMAY where his 25.49 foot SL was more than a foot and a half longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. If he gets rolling late he could be serious in here. Grand Candy, who might be second choice based on two one-paced efforts in sprints, comes in here with a four-under-Par Group 3 profile from OBSAPR where his 23.43 foot SL was about average that day for colts at a furlong. He might be a gimmick play as well, so you might want to box the three of them or key them with others in this wide-open field. Good luck!
