BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 6, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our Pick last week, Posse’s Paradise, broke last, couldn’t get her speed going until late but finished well enough to warrant a look at a mile. Otherwise, the news was good as the first BreezeFigs 2-year-old winner (from only four starters) came at Santa Anita as Sugar Queen ran away from her field. There were eleven BreezeFigs 3-year-olds that broke their maidens as well: Belmont (two), Churchill, Golden Gate, Gulfstream, Keeneland, Laurel (a BreezeFigs exacta), Lone Star, Santa Anita (two) and Tampa Bay. That’s a pretty wide geographical spread. Saturday's Kentucky Derby has us just as puzzled as it might have you, and we haven’t quite decided whether to throw our money in with other punters—or simply punt. But we do have our first 2-year-old race to examine which goes off well before the Derby and may give you a couple of extra bucks to punt with, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Santa Anita, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 4 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Our first foray into the 2-year-old cards comes up with two semi-interesting gimmick plays—Moonlight Praise and Hydrostatic—who have some things in common. They both breezed at BARMAR where they each earned a Group 3 ticket. Moonlight Praise was two-under-Par with a 24.95 foot stride length (SL), which was about three-quarters of a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. Hydrostatic, on the other hand, was one-under-Par, but his SL was 23.44 feet—more than three-quarters of a length shorter than average. In addition, both were RNA’s (not sold) in the ring—Hydrostatic for 60k and Moonlight Praise for 70k—so the fact they were in the sale doesn’t appear in the PP’s. The morning line seems to like them both, and so do we—long SL over short SL, but a box will do.. Good luck
