BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 5, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Happy Derby Day! We have no choice—it’s just one of the most contentious fields ever, best of luck! There was a noticeable slowdown in the number of BreezeFigs maidens this past week, but of the six that won five of them paid in double digits, four of them over $20. They came at Belmont, Gulfstream (three) Keeneland and Santa Anita. Saturday's card has some decent opportunities, and we thought that two of them on the same card might be worth pondering, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Santa Anita Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
They paid a lot of bucks for Storming Lady at EASMAY last year were her seven-over-Par Group 1 profile featured a 24.51 foot stride length (SL), more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day. She appears to want to sprint and this might be the right place at the right time for a filly with a right name name like this. Ooops! She’s worth a gimmick play.
Santa Anita Park, 8th Race, Maiden Claiming ($30,000) 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Mach Speed is not one we’d go to the wall for in most circumstances but this OBSJUN graduate did put up and acceptable two-over-Par profile at a quarter mile which featured a 25.38 foot SL, about a third of a foot longer than average for colts that day at that distance. He is definitely playable at the morning line odds. On the other hand, Angry Bobby has shown he’s not much in two starts, underscoring his modest even-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSAPR where his 23.22 foot SL on synthetic was three-quarters of a foot below average. That followed a one-under Par Group 4 performance at FTFMAR where he was scratched (SCR) from the sale after he showed a slightly under average 23.51 foot SL on dirt. We’d toss Mach Speed into some gimmicks in this one. Good luck!
