BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 4, 2019, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

Happy Derby Day everyone, may your horse be with you. As for our little corner of the paddock, it was a very good week for BreezeFigs horses of both generations. Our Pick last week resulted in a surprising $12,20 payoff as True Atka saved our hides by going wire-to-wire after our other gimmick play decided it was not a good day to run well. The big news is that the 2-year-olds are coming out like gangbusters with three winners this past week (two at Churchill, one at Gulfstream), making it six starters and four winners to date for that class. Indeed, the first one to start this year, Malibu Moonstruck, who had a horror trip in his first start, comes back tomorrow in the first at Laurel at generous odds—pounce. As for the 3-year-olds, 11 others broke their maidens besides True Atka. The wins came at Belmont (two), Belterra, Gulfstream (four, all on Thursday), Oaklawn, Parx, Santa Anita and Tampa Bay. As for Saturday's card, first timers are scarce but we found a little nugget that might work out—see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pick:

Santa Anita Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, One Mile (Turf)

Three BreezeFigs fillies in here, one of which, Tagline, is making her debut after a year off from being scratched (SCR) from the OBSAPR sale after posting an even-Par Group 2 profile with a basically average 24.49 foot stride length (SL) for fillies that day at a quarter mile. She has interesting connections and looks mighty gimmick worthy at 20-to-1. Cairo Kiss also breezed a quarter mile on a different day at the same sale and posted a nine-over-Par Group 1 profile with a 24.86 foot SL, about a quarter foot longer than average that day. She broke slow in her debut and gets another quarter mile in this one to make up for a similar mistake and is also gimmick worthy at 15-to-1. Fashion Island also breezed at the same sale but at a furlong and posted a two-over-Par Group 1 effort with a 24.43 foot SL, about three quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at that distance. She’s made three starts, none of which have impressed, yet with a trainer change is listed at 6-to-1. In a scratch-your-head moment, she might be worth a gimmick play as well, but we kind of like the other two if you’re fooling around with keys. Good luck!
