BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 30th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
After Where’s Poppa, half of our hunch-bet Quick-Pix exacta was scratched, we figured we might be OK with the other half, OK Momma, as our key—and then she walked out of the gate and took the tourist trip around Belmont Park without hardly raising a gallop. Meanwhile Katama, our better-liked of the other two BreezeFigs horses, came storming along to catch the other BreezeFigs horse, Groovy A at the wire, paying $25 and kicking off a $145 BreezeFigs exacta. We should all live so long to have one of those every week. Meanwhile the big news was the next day at Santa Anita where they ran four maiden races on the card—and each was one by a BreezeFigs 3-year-old: Exposure in the fourth ($3.60), Super Majesty in the fifth ($3.40). Lovenseek in the seventh ($16.80), and Seve’s Road in the ninth ($13). There were 11 other BreezeFigs 3-year-old maidens who won last week, three more at Belmont, two at Presque Isle (on the same night), and one each at Charles Town, Churchill, Evangeline, Monmouth, Parx and Pimlico. There were only two races for 2-year-olds last week in which BreezeFigs maidens appeared, and second-time starter Dubdubwatson won atSanta Anita and paid $6.80. Today’s card has no 2-year-olds but plenty of 3-year-olds, including an interesting race, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Gulfstream Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Starship Mercury makes his debut here a year after posting a three-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR where his 24.47 foot stride length was more than half-foot longer than average that day for colts at one eighth. He might be a solid gimmick play here along with the probably favorite, R Cat Daddy, whose two-under-Par Group 4 profile at a quarter mile at the same sale featured a 23.85 foot stride length, a tad under average for that day, He did well in his debut here in March and deserves to be considered strongly. The other BreezeFigs horse in here, Breezy My Way, comes off a layoff since September and a change of venues from NYRA to Gulfstream. He earned an even-Par Group 2 rating at OBSMAR last year with a 22.89 foot stride length at a furlong, more than a third of a foot below average, and was not sold (RNA) for 45k. He came back at EASMAY at a quarter mile with a three-over-Par Group 2 effort which featured a much more respectable 24.23 foot stride length, almost a half foot longer than average and was sold for 55k. His two starts in New York were against some killers, so if he’s ready, he may be worth a look and a gimmick try. In fact, this looks like a pretty interesting three-horse box. Good luck!
