BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 30, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
After our preferred choice last week failed to draw in from the AE list, our Pick was salvaged when Solo Animo got up in the last strides to complete a decent trifecta while our preferred choice, Vertical Threat, was still trying to get his act together. In a week of few opportunities, however, two of the first 2-year-olds to run won on Friday the 22nd , Cowan at Churchill and Positivity at Santa Anita while a slew of others also came out. There were four 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens that won, two each at Gulfstream and Tampa Bay—one of the latter resulting in a BreezeFigs trifecta. There are no baby races today to pick, but there is a sneaky choice we found among the 3-year-olds, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick
Santa Anita Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight (Cal-Breds), 5 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
Count Alexei came out of the new FTCJUN sale last year with a one-over-Par Group 2 effort that featured a solid 24.24 foot stride length (SL), a foot and a quarter longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. He finds himself in what looks to be a fairly weak field. He should be able to adapt to the weeds and as the tepid 7-to-2 morning line choice is worth a gimmick play at the least and maybe more depending on the board. Good luck!
