BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 2nd by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore

webmaster|May 01, 2015

Can’t argue with success—our Pick last week, Aurora’s Kid, got bet down to 5-to-2 and came home on top, kicking off a trifecta worth $206 if you included the other BreezeFigs horse, True Diplomacy, whom we didn’t quite like. Overall, Aurora’s Kid was one of 10 BreezeFigs maidens to get their picture taken, along with another at Tampa Bay, two each at Gulfstream and Pimlico, and solos at Churchill Downs, Golden Gate, Indiana and Santa Anita. And, hooray and hallelujah, first BreezeFigs 2-year-old came out Thursday at Santa Anita and Group 3 Esmeralda Belle got up to finish second. No, we do not have any particular choice in the Kentucky Derby, but one of us is old enough to remember seeing the best Derby field ever (albeit on TV)—1957, Iron Liege, Gallant Man, Bold Ruler, Round Table, etc.—and this bunch comes awfully close in across-the-board quality, so we might get a surprise or two. Today’s card has a couple of first-timers in the same race who look interesting, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pick:

Santa Anita, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs, (Dirt)

Still Standing and Poythress come out of OBSJUN where they each breezed a furlong, but on separate days. Both wound up as one-under-Par Group 2, with Still Standing’s 25.57 stride length 1.88 feet longer than average on his day and Polythress’ 24.23 SL almost a foot longer than average on his day. Thus, they start out even. On the other hand, Hook ‘Em Kurt ran creditably in his debut, up to his two-under-Par Group 4 profile at the pricier OBSMAR sale, checking in with only as 23.04 foot SL, a third of a foot shorter than average that day. We’d key Still Standing and Poythress in what looks like a modest field, a maybe toss in Hook ‘Em Kurt if you feel flush. Good luck!
