BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, May 29, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our Pick last week, Roger McQueen, was given too much to do too early—he’s a big horse not especially suited to 4 ½ furlongs—but he did last to complete the trifecta—tab him back longer. There were two juvenile BreezeFigs winners during the week, and there are more OBSAPR entries showing up. The 3-year-olds had a decent run with a half dozen winning at Arlington (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Belmont (two), Indiana and Parx. We have an extra today, one from each card, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
3-Year-Olds:
Belmont Park, 4th Race, Maiden Claiming ($40,000), One Mile (Turf)
If this one stays on the grass (weather is expected), Rush to Honor, the lone BreezeFigs entry here, looks tempting, but there are questions. He blew the doors off at OBSAPR last year with a 10-over-Par Group 1 ticket and a 24.88 foot stride length (SL), a third of a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. But he did not sell (RNA) on a final bid of 150k and here he is at 40k with clever connections. Watch the board, as well as the weather.
2-Year-Olds:
Churchill Downs, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Two of the three BreezeFigs colts in here look like they may be OK, and the third will be played for his connections. All come out of OBSMAR where Nineties Country posed a one-over-Par Group 1 profile with a 24.72 foot SL at a furlong, about a half-foot longer than the average for colts that day. Call Me Midnight breezed a quarter the same day and posted a three-over-Par Group 2 ticket with a 24.98 foot SL, more than three-fifths of a foot longer than average. Later in the week Glacial came along to post an even-Par Group 2 performance with a 23.49 foot SL, about a quarter foot shorter than average at an eight that day. We’d key Nineties Country and Call Me Midnight here. Good luck!
