BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 2, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
The less said about last week’s Pix the better, although it should be noted that the lower the class level of the race the riskier it is to depend on any kind of handicapping tool. That said there were still four BreezeFigs maidens that won last week across a very depleted racing scene. All paid in excess of nine bucks, two of which were first time starters—three won at Gulfstream and one at Will Rogers. Ironically, today is the day we’d all be heading to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby but instead of that the focus is on Hot Springs for the Arkansas Derby. We’ve got two maiden races there to examine, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Oaklawn Park, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
This is the filly division of today’s MSWs with both BreezeFigs entrants making their debuts. Scolding comes into this one sporting a six-over-Par Group 1 profile from OBSAPR where her 24.94 foot stride length (SL) was a quarter foot longer than average for fillies that day at a quarter mile. That was enough for her to attract a final bid of $475,000 and a 7-to-2 morning line slot. Portafina slotted a one-under-Par Group 3 performance at KEEAPR with a monster 26.06 foot SL that was more than a foot and a quarter longer than average for fillies at a furlong, but she was led out of the ring unsold (RNA) at $219,000. She’s pegged at 12-to-1 in here so we think you might want to roll with Scolding as the key and throw Portofina in sparingly if you must.
Oaklawn Park, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
The colts division has a first timer in Uncle Addouma who comes out of EASMAY with a four-over-Par Group 2 profile that featured a whopping 26.24 foot SL which was more than two-and-a-quarter feet longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. He’s a big boy. J Z My Man ships in from a somewhat troubled effort at Santa Anita where he did not show much off his FTFMAR Group 1 profile where his 24.36 SL was a half-foot longer than average. Both of these are about even in the morning line and a worthy of gimmick consideration. If Gabler Rocket gets in from the AE’s, he might be worthy of a gimmick look based on his OBSAPR effort which featured a 24.91 foot SL, a foot longer than average that day at a furlong. Good luck!.
