BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, May 13, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our first 2-year-old Pick of the season got fried in a duel on the head end—a common occurrence in baby races—but the only other juvenile starter, R Paper Chase, a Group 1 from OBSMAR, broke her maiden in her debut at Gulfstream at a generous (not!) $2.60. The 3-year-olds are still galloping to the winner’s circle with a dozen breaking their maidens last week: Bel Terra, Charles Town, Gulfstream (three, two on May 5th), Laurel (two, both on May 6th), Santa Anita (three, two on May 6th), Tampa Bay (two, one a BreezeFigs exacta). It pays to download these cards, eh? Saturday's cards give us an opportunity for a quick double header, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-year-olds:
Lone Star Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 4 ½ furlongs (Dirt):
The only horse on the card, Janae doesn’t appear in the PP’s as going through a sale because she was scratched (SCR) after she breezed at OBSMAR. She posted a seven-over-Par Group 1 profile before something may have happened to cause her removal, showing a 23.53 foot stride length (SL), which was just above average for fillies that day at an eighth. Looks like a key to us.
3-year-olds:
Pimlico, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
True Cat and Voo Dude, Group 2 graduates of EASMAY and OBSMAR, respectively, come in here as the lone BreezeFigs starters in the race. True Cat posted a three-over-Par ticket with a 24.80 foot SL, a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. Voo Dude was four-over-Par at his sale with a 25.21 foot SL, more than three-quarters-of-a-foot longer than average that day for colts at a quarter mile. He was scratched (SCR) from the sale after he breezed so that sale doesn’t appear in his PP’s. You might want to watch the board on this one, but a modest gimmick play with one or the other or both might be worth making. Good luck
