BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, May 12th

Bob Fierro|May 11, 2007

Third week in a row--we gave you a stone-cold BreezeFigs 2-Y-O Pick last week in Motovato, who blew the doors off at Delaware, while both our other Pix were scratched. Of course, we blew the Derby--but then, who didn't? We're going to make things easy this week by sticking with one track--Churchill Downs--for both picks, one a 2-y-o maiden, the other a 3-y-o maiden. Remember, please take advantage of all the tips that we provide--you can get a good idea by clicking on BreezeFigs Information underneath the two BreezeFigs links in the DRF-PLUS box in the right hand column on the home page and downloading files there.

Churchill Downs, , Maiden Special, 4 1/2 Furlongs

Short field here for colts that must be considered good bets to move onto bigger things. We thought Howboutthisdance looked like a good bet first time out at Keeneland, but he was green and ran into a serious monster; worth strong consideration here off his solid four-over-Par Group 1 move at OBSFEB this year where he was bought back (RNA) by his connections for 87k. He will get some trouble from the outside horse, Manofthewest, who had virtually identical numbers in terms of stride length and BreezeFig at the FTFFEB sale a month later, and sold for a pricey 485k. Not much value here, but there are lots of gimmick opportunities.

Churchill Downs, , Maiden Claiming (30g), 1 1/16 Miles

Three BreezeFigs horses in this event, but only one looks worthy of a punt--Withagrainofsalt. He did OK in his lone start a couple of months back at Turfway, and sported a solid BreezeFig last year at OBSMAR with a near 24-foot stride length (SL). Not much to beat here, but one to study is Hazard Four, who was OK at KEEAPR last year but was early toast in his debut last month at Keeneland. Maybe he didn't like Polytrack. His BreezeFig, while two under Par, was coupled with a 24-foot SL, so if he can get position from the rail, he might hold on this time to close out a gimmick.
