BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, May 12, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our Pix last week resulted in a one-paced effort from Storming Lady and a promising effort after a tough trip by Mach Speed, whom we would tab back at the same level. Overall, however, it was a very decent week for BreezeFigs maidens as well as those which have gone on to be stakes horses. There were nine 3-year-olds that broke their maidens during the week: Belmont, Churchill, Finger Lakes, Gulfstream, Laurel (two), Parx (BreezeFigs exacta), Prairie Meadows, and Santa Anita (BreezeFigs exacta). In addition, BreezeFigs fillies Mia Mischief, Talk Veuve to Me and Gas Station Sushi swept the Eight Belles on Oaks Day, with Wonder Gadot and Midnight Bisou placing second and third in the Oaks. Maraud and Funny Duck won stakes on Derby Day, with Audible finishing third in the big event and at Santa Anita Blame the Rider came home on top in a stakes. Today’s card has a good many first timers, but one race looks more intriguing than the others, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Churchill Downs, 11th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 1 1/16 Miles (Turf)
Three BreezeFigs fillies are in here, two of them first timers, one of which looks like if she gets a good trip from the outside could be a nuisance at the end. That would be Don’t Stop Maria who posted a four-over-Par Group 1 effort at OBSAPR with a 24.26 foot stride length (SL) that was almost a foot-and-a-quarter longer than average that day for fillies at a furlong. Bless the Rains put in a fairly decent one-over-Par Group 2 effort at OBSJUN with a 23.47 foot SL, about a half-foot shorter than average—but she was scratched (SCR) from the sale after the breeze. The redundantly named Beau Belle has made three starts, the last one not too bad in what may be a key race, but she was left unsold (RNA) at 70k at OBSAPR after posting a two-over-Par Group 2 ticket with a 22.63 foot SL, more than half a foot shorter than average that day. None of these three fillies was the most graceful mover in their breezes last year which means they could more than likely want the turf. In this case, we are looking for Don’t Stop Maria to be a key with Beau Belle as a saver in the gimmicks. Good luck!
