BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, March 3, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

webmaster|Mar 02, 2018

Our logical filly Pick last week, Onassis, got up to complete what you might call a “prominent ladies exacta” (the winner’s name is Condi, get it?) but our firster Pick in that race, Mongolian Rahy, didn’t show anything. However, two races later at Santa Anita a previous Pick, Karmic Affinity, won her second start to become one of 16 BreezeFigs maidens which took home the top prize last week. Another one came at Santa Anita (BreezeFigs exacta) and the others came at Aqueduct (BreezeFigs trifecta), Fair Grounds (BreezeFigs exacta), Golden Gate, Gulfstream (three), Oaklawn (four, including two BreezeFigs exactas), San Houston and Tampa Bay (three). Today’s card is short on both quantity and first-time starters, and is likely to be compromised by weather on the left and right coasts. But we found one tucked in on a third coast, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pick:

Tampa Bay, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, One Mile & Forty Yards (Dirt)

Two BreezeFigs maidens in here with first-time starter Ironwood pegged at 8-to-1 in the morning line despite the fact that he earned a price tag of $950k at OBSMAR last year. At that venue he earned a two-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a 25.19 foot stride length (SL), a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. Fredonia threw in a poor five-under-Par Group 4 performance at EASMAY last year with a 23.50 foot SL, only a quarter foot shorter than average for colts that day at a furlong. He has improved in his first three starts and may get into the gimmick picture. We wouldn’t bet the ranch on Ironwood, but if he gets a clean trip he might be able to amble home on top, and might be worth a key or two plays. Good luck!
