BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, March 2, 2019 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
The “slight class edge” we liked in Get the Goodies last week was magnified when our other Pick Shilah Baby scratched out and our other key Fleeterthan went out and fried herself, fading to complete the trifecta. Oh, did we mention that Get the Goodies came through with her class edge by more than seven lengths in a sparkling performance at a generous $6.80? There you go. She was one of 14 BreezeFigs maidens who came home on top during the week at: Aqueduct (three), Gulfstream (four), Laurel (two), Oaklawn (another one besides our Pick), Santa Anita and Tampa Bay (two). Saturday's card has several interesting events and some questionable weather prospects, so we hunted down what track might be open and came up with an interesting selection, see below. Good luck! (NOTE: The 2019 2-year-old sale season gets under way next week and we will be at OBSMAR for the breeze show so our column will not be filed because of deadline conflicts).
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Laurel Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Homeofthe Lombardi may not have many gridiron fans in Baltimore but he is generously priced at 9-to-2 considering his six-over-Par Group 1 performance at EASMAY last year where his 24.77 foot stride length (SL) was just above average that day for colts at an eighth. He’s a good mover and could be your key. Harmony Cat, the other first timer, gets in here with a one-over-Par Group 2 profile from OBSJUN, but his 22.36 foot SL there was more than a foot and three-quarters shorter than average that day, so he is questionable. Big Boots has had two chances and has not justified his five-over-Par Group 2 profile from OBSAPR where his 24.18 foot SL was just about average that day but he could wake up and be a gimmick saver with key horse Homeofthe Lombardi. Good luck!
