BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, March 10, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our top Pick last week, Ironwood, was scratched but our “may get into the gimmick picture” Pick Fredonia, came through to compete a $58 trifecta, so the world didn’t end. Overall it was a very good week for BreezeFigs maidens as a dozen of them won across the country at: Aqueduct (BreezeFigs exacta), Charles Town, Fair Grounds, Gulfstream (five, including two BreezeFigs exactas), Sam Houston, Santa Anita and Tampa Bay (two). Saturday's card has a number of first timers, but the only two that are in the positive range includes our scratched Pick from last week, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Tampa Bay, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)
Two BreezeFigs first-time starters in here including last week’s timid Pick Ironwood who comes into this compact field of pricey and toney pedigreed colts as a 4-to-1 shot. A $950k purchase at OBSMAR last year, Ironwood earned a two-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a 25.19-foot stride length (SL), a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. The irony here (no pun intended) is that Ruler of the Nile, breezed on a different day at the same sale earning a two-over-Par Group 2 ticket (with a quarter-foot longer than average 24.50 foot SL) and is favored at 7-to-5. That he brought a cool million at the sale shows how close these two might be. We think they are both gimmick plays at the least but tip toward Ironwood as a potential key. Good luck!
