BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, June 27th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
One of our two Pix last week scored, sort of, when our juvenile gimmick play, Cinnamon J P, led wire-to-wire at Lone Star and posted $25—while the coupled entry we favored was off the board. In truth, BreezeFigs juveniles that run in cheap maiden claimers often have advantages even if they are not necessarily “up to Par” because many of them have been training longer and harder than other starters in the same races, so always consider them. The 3-year-old pick at Canterbury was desultory in a fourth place finish. It was a bonanza week for BreezeFigs maidens of both ages anyway. Eight of them won, at Churchill, Gulfstream (two), Parx, Pleasanton, Prairie Meadows, and Woodbine (two). Nine, count’em, nine, juvenile BreezeFigs maidens won, eight of them first-time starters, five of them paying double digits, including Crowd Control, a $37 number at Belmont who combined with Young Anna Lee for the first juvenile BreezeFigs exacta of the year at $207. The other winners came at Churchill, Gulfstream (two) Lone Star, Louisiana Downs, Monmouth. Parx, amd Santa Anita. Like last week, we’re going to give you one Pick for each card today, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
3-year-olds: Monmouth Park, 10th Race, Maiden Special Weight 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Two fillies come out of EASMAY in this race, with the first-timer, Magnettes, might be preferable despite a lower profile than second-timer Unbridled’s Quest based on the latter’s debut. Magnettes was a one-over-Par Group 2 at that sale with a 23.78 foot stride length which was almost three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at one eighth. On the previous day Unbridled’s Quest posted a five-over-Par Group 1 profile with a 24.71 foot SL at the same distance, more and a foot-and-a-half longer that average. Her debut was a stinker, but things sometimes turn around. We’d consider both of these as strong gimmick plays, and watch the board to see if either is getting action if you want to go further.
2-year-olds: Gulfstream Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Turf)
This one could be fun: Babies on the turf, two BreezeFigs first-timers, one a colt by a sire who wanted a distance on the weeds, the other a filly by a terrific turf sire. The colt, Cajun Schill, posted a six-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSMAR with a 24.93 foot stride length, almost a foot longer than average for colts that day at one furlong, a bit unexpected, perhaps, for a son of Artie Schiller. He was not sold (RNA), however, at 95k. . Adopt a Kitten, on the other hand, posted a modest four-under-Par Group 4 profile at OBSAPR with a 22.50 foot SL, more than half-foot shorter than fillies that day at a furlong. She, too, was not sold (RNA), for 47k—but she’s by Kitten’s Joy and is owned by the same folks who own the sire. This is a super interesting contest, and both of these should be strongly considered for your gimmicks. Good luck!
