BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, June 27, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Though one of our Pix was scratched and the other got off badly and may still be running, it was a week during which a plethora of 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens crossed the wire first—16 of them at 11 tracks, which is spreading the wealth in any game. These wins came at Belmont (two), Churchill (two), Delaware, Evangeline, Fonner, Gulfstream, Indiana Grand (two), Lone Star, Prairie Meadows (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Santa Anita (two), and Tampa Bay. How’s that for a Grand Tour? There also were a dozen 2-year-olds that started, all from OBSMAR, and though there were no winners, the action will be heating up now that the OBSAPR graduates are coming out (see below). As we said last week, racing is back! Today’s card is crowded with opportunities, and we’ve got one for each crop to pick over, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
3-Year-Olds:
Lone Star Park, 9th Race, Maiden Claiming ($20,000), 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
Gwinnett’s Map was a pricey yearling who posted a three-over-Par Group 2 ticket at FTFMAR with a 24.33 foot stride length (SL), that was two-thirds of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. But she was scratched from the sale (SCR) and did not go through the ring. She reappeared at FTCJUN with a very similar profile, two-over-Par Group 2, with a 23.21 foot SL, more than half-a-foot longer than average that day. And she was scratched again. So maybe she has issues? Turf might help her and the price tag indicates that this clever barn may be willing to let her go after she wins, which could happen. At 3-to-1 she’s a sneaky gimmick play here.
2-Year-Olds
Gulfstream Park, 2nd Race, Maiden Claiming ($50,000), 5 Furlongs (Dirt)
Papa Honor has the distinction of being the first OBSAPR sale graduate to make it to the races and he might do here after posting a two-over-Par Group 2 effort with 25.34 foot SL, more than half-a-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. But he did not sell (RNA) on a final bid of 32k, so here he is where his price is what they probably wanted at the sale. You’ll get a decent price here no matter how you play him, but a modest gimmick is about as far as we’d go. Good luck!
