BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, June 23, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our gimmick Pix at Gulfstream last week went right out from the gate and fried each other so that only one, Elusive Ro, got into the frame by finishing third. The other Pick, Slydini at Woodbine, was somewhat green but showed promise in getting up for fourth. The highlights of the week were that nine 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won, which is encouraging this late in the year; four BreezeFigs 2-year-olds also won. The 3-year-olds won at Arlington, Belmont (BreezeFigs exacta), Churchill, Gulfstream, Hastings, Laurel (two on the same day, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Penn National and Santa Anita (BreezeFigs exacta). The babies won at Arlington, Belmont, Delaware and Santa Anita. Today is chock full of opportunities on both cards, so we picked one from each, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Churchill Downs, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Dirt)
Three BreezeFigs babies line up here, one of which, Bano Solo, is favored in the morning line. He put in a two-over-Par Group 2 performance at OBSMAR with a 24.29 foot stride length, but that was about a third-of-a-foot below average for colts that day at a quarter mile. Mr Midtown breezed that same distance on the same day at that sale and came out with a two-over-Par Group 2 performance as well—but his 23.74 foot SL was more than three-quarters of a foot shorter than average. On the other hand, Most Mischief came out at OBSAPR with a two-over-Par Group 1 ticket that featured a 24.11 foot SL, basically the average for colts that day at a furlong. Mr Midtown is stuck on the rail, and Bano Solo may be your key, but don’t overlook Most Mischief if he’s hovering around the same 5-to-1 morning line..
3-Year-Olds
Santa Anita, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Downhill Turf)
Someone’s sniffing around at the morning line because Outlaw is 2-to-1 and that is a bit of a surprise for a first-timer this late in the season. However, this $450k OBSAPR graduate did throw in a five-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a 24.42 foot SL, almost three-quarters of a foot longer than average that day at a quarter mile. Third-time starter Causeididtmyway had a similar profile at BARMAR where his five-over-Par Group 1 performance at an eighth featured a 24.54 foot SL, about a quarter foot longer than average. His first two starts weree not encouraging but he may be a first-time gelding and it’s his turf debut so watch the board for a gimmick opportunity while you key in on Outlaw. Good luck!
