BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, June 20th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Last week we recommended that you consider using our very modestly backed Pick in your gimmicks, and for that advice Ourtaleoftwocities answered back with a second-place finish to pay $203 in the exacta and $1,500 in the trifecta if you keyed him. The week itself was light on action and success among the 3-year-olds, with only four BreezeFigs horses breaking their maidens-at Belmont, Gulfstream (two) and Parx. Three others won stakes, however, Celestine at Belmont, Fast Flying Rumor at Monmouth, and Academic, who delivered a $135 bomb in the Canadian Oaks at Woodbine. The juveniles are now coming out in more than dribs and drabs, with five of the seven who recorded BreezeFigs that were over Par placing either 1-2-3, including the winners at Evangeline and Santa Anita. Both cards today have playable opportunities, so we’re going to give you one for each card, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
3-year-olds
Canterbury Park, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Exactly one year after she posted a 10-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSJUN, Right to Glory makes her debut after a series of steady works. She had a 24.55 foot stride length in her breeze, about a foot-and-a-half longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong—but she was scratched (SCR) before she went into the ring. Obviously something was bothering her, but if she’s over it, she is worth a gimmick consideration at the least, and at 9-to-2 in the morning line, may be worth more than that.
2-year-olds
Lone Star Park, 5th Race, Maiden Claiming ($25,000), 5 Furlongs (Dirt)
Three fillies line up here, with one of them looking a bit better than the other two. That would be Imaproudlady who posted a two-over-Par Group 2 profile at OBSAPR with a 23.33 foot stride length at a furlong, about a third-of-a-foot longer than average for fillies that day. Cinnamon J P and Miss Penny Henny breezed on different days at OBSMAR and both posted four-under-Par Group 3 profiles. The former had a 23.51 foot SL, which was actually longer than Imaproudlady’s at the OBSAPR sale, but Cinnamon J P’s was more than a third- of-a-foot shorter than average for fillies on her day. Miss Penny Henny, who is coupled with Imaproudlady, had a 22.92 foot SL, which was a tad shorter than average on her day. All three of these sold for less than 10k, and considering the quality of each sale, are almost even at this level. We’ll stick with Imaproudlady if she goes, but if she’s scratched, the other two might be OK in the gimmicks. Good luck!
