BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, June 2, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
One of our Pix was scratched and the other one got off slowly and looked like he might have needed the race, but last week was hardly a total loss. Two other 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens stepped up and won in their debuts at Santa Anita and the day after our Pix pooped at Arlington, we got our first baby BreezeFigs exacta of the year there. And going against the trend of the past few weeks, 13 BreezeFigs 3-year-old maidens scored, at: Arlington, Belmont (three including two BreezeFigs exactas), Churchill (two), Delaware, Gulfstream (four, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Santa Anita and Woodbine. With the weather threatening to mess with a lot of cards, we have come up with a Pick on each card that look reasonable, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Gulfstream Park, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 4 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Live for the Day comes out of OBSMAR with a whopping 10-over-Par Group 1 rating that featured a 26.34 foot stride length (SL), a foot-and-three-quarters longer than colts that day at a furlong. But he was scratched (SCR) from the sale after he breezed so we have some suspicions and he is not the most graceful mover. However, his trainer is known for putting babies over early, so his 9-to-2 morning line might prove tempting. Look to key him.
3-Year-Olds
Parx Racing, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, About a Mile (Turf)
Tizzy Dancer was consistent in her two attempts to sell last year. She chalked up a five-over-Par Group 1 ticket at OBSMAR on synthetic with a 24.31 foot SL, almost a foot longer than fillies that day at one eighth—but she failed to sell (RNA) at 45k. She came back at EASMAY on the dirt with a similar pattern—three-over-Par Group 1, 24.17 foot SL, which was two-thirds of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at one eighth—and she sold for 65k. Today she is on the rail and if the rains hold off, on the turf. She has some caveats, including the fact that her sire should have helped her price well beyond what the market was willing to pay. She might be a good gimmick play if she stays in the race, so watch the board. Good luck!
