BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 4, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
When both of our Pix last week decided that getting out of the gate quickly was not a priority we suppose we should be thankful that each finished fifth. Otherwise it was a good week for BreezeFigs maidens in both crops: Seven 3-year-olds won and four 2-year-olds came home on top, which indicates things are almost back to normal in the racing world, at least on the track The 3-year-olds won at Gulfstream, Indiana, Los Alamitos (two), Parx, Tampa Bay and Woodbine; the babies came home on top at Churchill, Lone Star, Los Alamitos, and Tampa Bay. Both of today’s cards have good opportunities but are a bit light in our criteria—first-time starters with a shot. However, we found one race on each card to spotlight, see below. Happy Fourth, stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
3-Year-Olds:
Belmont Park, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Turf)
Three BreezeFigs fillies are in here, two of them making their debuts, with one, Yes to Mischief, likely to garner most support. She came out of OBSMAR last year with a mixed two-under-Par Group 3 profile which was bolstered mostly by a 25.39 foot stride length (SL), which was a foot-and-a-quarter longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. She brought beaucoup bucks in the ring. Madame Maclean posted a two over Park Group 2 number at EASMAY but her 22.69 foot SL was almost a foot below average. She was promptly scratched (SCR) after that breeze which indicates she may have done something to herself but she’s had a year to recover. Zerenia’s first start showed that her poor showing at OBSAPR last year was probably her true form and she also was scratched after her eight-under-Par Group 3 ticket which featured a 22.27 foot SL, almost a foot-and-a-half shorter than average. We would toss both Yes to Mischief and Madame Maclean into gimmicks in this one.
2-Year-Olds
Monmouth Park, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 4 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
We’re not jumping up and down over Twirling Fire’s chances in this one primarily because his four-over-Par Group 2 ticket featured a 23.78 foot SL, which was a half foot shorter than average that day at OBSMAR for colts at a furlong. However, these baby races with a short shot into the turn often give quick striding horses an advantage and if he’s got the conditioning he could be a nice surprise and is definitely gimmick worthy. Good luck!
