BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 2nd, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Forest Circle, our 2-year-old Pick, made us look good at a surprisingly generous $6.80 last week, but our 3-year-old Pick went the way of all poor choices. It was an interesting week for the 2-year-olds: there were 16 maiden races carded in which at least one BreezeFigs horse started, and seven of them were won by BreezeFigs horses. There were three at Churchill (including two BreezeFigs exactas) and solos at Arlington (our Pick), Charles Town, Emerald Downs and Prairie Meadows. The 3-year-olds chalked up four wins, two at Belmont (including a $74 bomb) and one each at Albuquerque and Santa Anita. In an unusual occurrence, there are no first-time starters on Saturday’s 3-year-old card, so we shall give you a bonus on the 2-year-olds with two opportunities, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds:
Belmont Park, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Both BreezeFigs fillies have a shot in here, including the first-timer Libby’s Tail, who has the advantage of a middle post in a race where the turn comes up quickly. She posted a six-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSAPR with a 25.08 foot stride length (SL), almost a foot-and-a-half longer than fillies that day at one furlong. Golden Mischief has had two tries already, including a hot stakes, but this is a really nice filly whose OBSMAR seven-over-Par Group 1 profile was somewhat compromised by her 23.58 foot SL, a tad under average for fillies that day at a furlong. She’s also stuck on the rail which means she may have to be pushed sooner than she would need to give her best effort. We’d look to key both there fillies.
Parx, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Dirt)
Rum Punch blew the doors off at EASMAY with an 11-over-Par Group 1 profile that featured a somewhat astronomical 25.78 foot SL, which was 2.38 feet longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. She isn’t the prettiest mover you will see, but she should get the job done here. Good luck!
