BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 27, 2019 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our split division 2-year-old Pix last week came up with a decent exacta in the first division as Magnanimous got up in the last jump to finish second. But the second division Pick, Merveilleux, not only got off badly but after a half-hearted rally on the turn was basically eased and walked off; hope she’s OK. Meanwhile five 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won during a week where the weather was not conducive to much of anything, at: Del Mar (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream, Parx and Saratoga. Nine 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens won including: Arlington (two), Del Mar (two, including a BreezeFigs superfecta), Ellis (BreezeFigs trifecta), Gulfstream, Laurel and Saratoga (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta). Here’s a tip: If a horse has breezed at two sales, note whether the profile at the second sale is much better than the first and then up its potential. Happened several times last week. Saturday's card offers two races in which the odds may not tell the story, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
3-Year-Olds:
Monmouth Park 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Vision of Thanos tossed in a one-over-Par ticket at EASMAY last year with a 26.54 foot stride length (SL), which was almost two feet longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. However, he was not sold (RNA) for 75k, so his PP’s don’t reflect this. Sir Thaddeus, also making his debut, notched a two-under-Par Group 4 effort at the weaker OBSJUN sale with a 23.20 foot SL, almost a foot under average for colts that day at a furlong. Yet he is the morning line favorite at 5-to-2 and Vision of Thanos is 15-to-1. We were not thrilled with the latter’s motion during his breeze but these two could be tossed into gimmicks with some confidence.
2-yar-olds
Saratoga, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
The two BreezeFigs colts in here are both by Into Mischief with BreezeFigs profiles that match their morning lines. Shoplifted tossed in an even-Par Group 2 profile at FTFMAR with a 25.17 foot SL, a foot and a third longer than average that day. He’s at 8-to-5 in the morning line and is a really nice horse, but this race might be too short for him although with his connections you can expect him to be pushed early. Always Misbehaving comes out of OBSMAR with a five-over-Par Group 1 effort highlighted by a 26.03 foot SL, a foot and a half longer than average that day. He is listed at 8-to-1 and although he isn’t the smoothest mover in the world, he is a serious gimmick play to back up your Shoplifted key. Good luck!
