BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 25th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore

webmaster|Jul 24, 2015

Who says it never rains in Southern California? Our top Pick last week, Kelly With a Twist, got sort of drowned in that crazy storm, coming in fourth to our basic second choice, Rockin’ Bayou, who paid $8.80. Interestingly, the BreezeFigs horses finished 1-3-4-5-6 in the field, so there we some consolation gimmick payoffs for those who played around. There were seven other juvenile BreezeFigs maidens who won during the week, four at Gulfstream and one each at Indiana, Monmouth and Sacramento. Over on the 3-year-old side, five of them got their pictures taken, two at Parx and solos at Belmont, Ellis and Louisiana Downs. Most interesting stat of the week: All the 2-year-old winners and four of the five 3-year-old winners were Group 1 or Group 2 on their BreezeFigs profiles (the lone exception broke its maiden for 10k). Thus, it is wise to check these profiles out along with their figs and stride lengths. As for today, hunt as we might, we could not find a decent first-timer among the 3-year-olds to tout, but that card is very interesting. But, since it is the opening weekend at Saratoga, where babies are the focus, we will pop in and look at one of those, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreeeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pix:

2-year-olds - Saratoga, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)

Both BreezeFigs horses in here are from solid connections, and as such the morning line has them among the favorites. First timer Moon King and second-timer Metal Magic both come out of OBSMAR where they each breezed an eighth of a mile. Moon King chalked up a four-over-Par Group 1 profile with a 24.96 foot stride length, which was a foot longer than average for colts that day at the distance. The next day Metal Magic threw in a one-over-Par Group 2 effort with a 23.68 foot SL, a bit over a quarter foot shorter than average for colts that day at the distance. He just got pipped at the wire in his Churchill Downs debut and will be on solid ground here. Both of these are gimmick plays, but we’d give a nod to Moon King if you are going to key. Good luck!
