BreezeFigs Quick-Pix, Saturday, July 21, 2018 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Last week’s Pick was a wash-out: all of the ones we liked were scratched. Still, it was a good week for both BreezeFigs cards—seven 2-year-old maidens and five 3-year-old maidens won. The juveniles won at Arlington, Gulfstream, Indiana, Monmouth (two), Thistledown and Woodbine—and two others won stakes at Evangeline and Belmont, with a BreezeFigs horse finish third in each of those races. The 3-year-olds won at Belmont (two), Ellis (BreezeFigs exacta), Indiana and Los Alamitos. Today’s Pix are appropriately for the first Saturday cards at Saratoga and Del Mar. Because there are so many horses in each race, we’re handling our comments a bit differently, so you will have to refer to the cards on the main menu to get more data. See below for the broad strokes. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Saratoga, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
You’re going to have to watch the board in this one—seven BreezeFigs colts, five making their debuts. The two who’ve raced, Nitrous and Most Mischief, both came out strongly in key races won by the two favorites in today’s Sanford Stakes. Nitrous was scratched after posting a five-over-Par Group 1 ticket at EASMAY with a 24.52 foot stride length (SL), about average that day; Most Mischief chalked up a two-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR with a 24.11 SL, average for that day Of the first-timers, the one we like best, Coast, is on the AE list, but if he breaks in, gimmick him—he had an eleven-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSMAR with a 25.11 foot stride length (SL), more than a foot longer than average for colts that day at an eighth. Cromwell Avenue blew the doors off at OBSAPR with a six-over-Par Group 1 profile and a 25.71 foot SL, more than a foot-and-a-half half a foot longer than average. The Big S threw in an acceptable even-Par Group 2 effort at OBSMAR with a foot-above-average 25.67 foot SL, while Binary was unimpressive with a six-under-Par Group 4 effort at OBSAPR that featured a 24.28 foot SL, about average. The one to watch as the real upset chance is Fed Fever. This one didn’t sell at 220k (RNA) after posting a two-over-Par Group 2 effort at OBSMAR with a 24.87 foot SL, more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average. He came back at EASMAY with a three-over-Par Group 2 effort and a 26.59 foot SL, more than two feet longer than average. This one is a definite gimmick play in a race where Nitrous and Most Mischief should be your keys..
Del Mar, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 furlongs (Dirt)
This is a quickie throw-in: There are five BreezeFigs first-timers in here, one of which, Istanbul, is on the AE list. You would do best to key Truck Salesman whose three-over-Par Group 1 effort at OBSMAR featured a 24.82 foot SL, just above average that day. You might want to throw Grand Meister and Magnificent McCool into your gimmicks. Good luck!
