BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, July 18, 2020 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Con Lima, our Pick key last week, used her enormous stride length to close powerfully and miss by a nose, but she was really green and was probably the best. Meanwhile, four BreezeFigs maiden 2-year-olds won—at Delaware, Del Mar, Keeneland and Monmouth. Add them to the eight 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens that came through with victories at Belmont, Charles Town, Del Mar, Gulfstream (three), Keeneland, and an opening day $71 bomb at Saratoga and it was a good week. There are plenty of opportunities on both cards today but we’ve decided that we might have fun with a “Saratoga Sandwich,” see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here are Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds
Saratoga, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Top half of the “Saratoga Sandwich” features what is likely to be an odds-on Mo Mischief, who posted an even-Part Group 2 at OBSMAR with a 24.51 foot stride length (SL), which was about a half-foot shorter than average at a quarter mile that day. He is a nice colt and sneakily so is Momos, whose two-under-Par Group 2 on a different day at this sale featured a 23.57 foot SL, which was almost a foot shorter than average. Momos may not look as strong but we think if you hooked the two of these up in some gimmicks you will walk away counting some bucks.
3-Year-Olds
Saratoga, 11th Race, Maiden Special Weight (New York-Breds), 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Bottom half of the “Saratoga Sandwich” features American Piper, who posted a 10-over-Par Group 1 ticket at last year’s OBSJUN sale with a 25.34 foot SL, a foot longer than average for colts that day at a furlong. Midnight Whiskey and Quick Return look like they could be gimmick plays depending on the board—Midnight Whiskey has done OK in a couple of starts which reflect well on his one-under-Par Group 3 profile at EASMAY last year, while Quick Return didn’t do poorly in his debut reflecting his three-under-Par Group 4 ticket at OBSJUN. Both of them, however, had fairly short SLs but could be gimmick lays depending on what the board says. We’d key American Piper. Good luck!
