BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, July 13, 2019, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
No column last week because we were examining the new yearlings at the Fasig-Tipton sale in Lexington, many of which will show up on next year’s BreezeFigs cards. Interesting crowd. As for our Pix two weeks ago, our 2-year-old “key,” Powerfulattraction was up in time to pay a generous $8.40 to kick off BreezeFigs exacta. There were nine other 2-year-old BreezeFigs maidens who won over the past two weeks and 15 BreezeFigs 3-year-old maidens who got off the schneid. Saturday's cards are pretty loaded with strong opportunities, and we found a “do over” at Monmouth Park and a baby race at Saratoga that look good, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds:
Saratoga, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
The hot favorite is going to be Zyramid, who ironically was one of our first 2-year-old Pix of the year in a race where he just couldn’t get going. He will benefit from that start as well as his five-over-Par Group 1 effort at FTFMAR where his 23.93 foot stride length (SL) was about average that day for colts at a furlong—he was scratched (SCR) after the breeze so the PP’s don’t reflect that he was in the sale. However, we like Vaya Con Dios in here. This first time starter posted a five-over-Par Group 1 as well, this at OBSAPR where his 24.22 foot SL was also just about average for colts that day at a furlong. We think he might have a future, and if he is not rushed too hard early might get himself boxed in a gimmick with Zyramid; you might key both of them.
3-Year-Olds:
Monmouth Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Claiming ($10,000), 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
OK, we’re getting lazy here. Irish Orb was scratched after we picked her two weeks ago in a similar event, but today she is at 3-to-1 in the morning line so maybe she woke a few rail birds up in the morning since then. She blew the doors off at OBSJUN last year with a seven-over-Par Group 1 effort that featured a 24,70 foot SL, more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. But she was scratched (SCR) from the sale after breezing and turns up here a year later for the low rent tag. She was a 140k yearling so she might be worth a key play depending on how much she fluctuates from her morning line. Good luck!
