BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, July 10, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our 2-year-old Pick last week was scratched, which bummed us because we really liked her, but Upandcomingstar, our 3-year-old Pick in the next race at Ellis was a winner until the last couple of jumps when he got beat out but still completed a trifecta and superfecta. Still, it was a good week for the 3-year-old BreezeFigs maidens as eight of them won at Arlington (two), Belmont, Bel Terra, Fort Erie, Gulfstream, Penn Natioal and Woodbine. The babies scored at Arlington (BreezeFigs exacta), Lone Star and Los Alamitos. Today’s cards are very tough for our standards—first time starters at tracks where weather might not be a factor. As such, there are no first-timers among the 3-year-olds but there are two juvenile races where the weather might hold up to give us a shot, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds:
Monmouth Park, 6th Race, Maiden Claiming ($25g), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
There are four BreezeFigs fillies in here, all of which come out of OBSAPR and all have gimmick shots. Two might be stronger plays, however. Don’t Tell Grandma posted a three-over-Par Group 2 ticket with a 23.69 foot stride length (SL), just about average for fillies that day at a furlong. Miss Lady L and Fall Campaign breezed on the same day later in the week with different tickets even though both posted the same time. Miss Lady L did it more efficiently and wound up with an even-Par Group 2 ticket and a 24.07 foot SL while her inefficiency cost Fall Campaign some points despite the fact that her SL was 24.08---she wound up with a four-under-Par Group 3 profile. Luz breezed on the same day as Don’t Tell Grandma but wound up with a seven-under-Par Group 4 profile and was scratched (SCR) before the auction began. In races this cheap anything can happen especially if the track is off but it looks like Don’t Tell Grandma and Miss Lady L could be keys here and Fall Campaign a saver.
Lone Star Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 furlongs (Dirt)
Splenda Gail is the only BreezeFigs filly in here and she has a very modest profile but could be worth a gimmick play. She went three furlongs at OBSJUN and posted an even-Par Group 2 ticket with a 23.87 foot SL, which was almost a half-foot shorter than average that day for fillies at that distance—which is not that big a deal because of the distance. She is worth a look and play if the board agrees. Good luck.
