BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 6, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Cold where you are? Join the club. The week’s BreezeFigs activity was limited somewhat due to weather conditions but Esperanza Diamond, our Pick “key” last week, did warm some cockles of the heart with a good second at solid odds to complete a $40 exacta. Elsewhere nine BreezeFigs maidens broke through to the winner’s circle—five as 2-year-olds, four as newly-turned sophomores. Four of those wins came at Gulfstream, one of which resulted in a $240 BreezeFigs exacta; there was one at Santa Anita and four more at Tampa Bay. Saturday's card is a bit paltry on the class side so we’ve given you two to ponder, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Santa Anita, 6th Race, Maiden Claiming ($50,000), California-Breds, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Karmic Affinity gets in here on the outside and at 6-to-1 is worth a shot. She comes out of OBSAPR with a five-over-Par Group 1 profile and even though her 23.16 foot stride length (SL) was just a tad above average for fillies that day at a furlong, against this bunch she has enough speed so that she can settle in and close. Nice gimmick play.
Tampa Bay, 9th Race, Maiden Claiming ($16,000), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Four BreezeFigs maidens in here, all making the debuts, two of which should be considered for keys: Pokerist and Roble Cayeyano, both of which come out of OBSJUN. Pokerist posted a five-over-Par Group 1 number at a quarter mile with a 24.51 foot SL, a foot-and-a-quarter longer than average for colts that day at the distance. Roble Cayeyano earned a four-over-Par Group 1 ticket at one eighth with a 25.13 foot SL, more than three-quarters of a foot longer than average. Neither one is a picture perfect mover, but at this level they could be dangerous. Debdurite comes out of OBSAPR with a three-over-Par Group 2 profile but his 23.07 foot SL was almost a quarter-foot shorter than average—he could have done something to himself because he was scratched (SCR) from the sale. Maybe a gimmick saver. Candy Power comes out of OBSJUN with a 16-under-Par (yes) Group 4 profile and a 22.80 foot SL which was more than a foot-and-a-half shorter than average. Pass. Watch the board here and look for the action on the recommended keys. Good luck!
