BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 5, 2019, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEGlad we said that you might toss in Art G is Back along with Last Judgment as your keys last week. They sent Last Judgment out to press for the lead even though he had never worked more than half a mile, and Art G is Back dawdled in last and got his long stride mojo going late to blow away the field and pay $15—and Last Judgment lasted long enough to complete the superfecta. Happy New Year! There were 14 other BreezeFigs maidens who broke through to the winner’s circle last week, either as 2-year-olds or 3-year-olds (happy birthday, kids), at: Aqueduct, Delta (two), Fair Grounds (three), Gulfstream (two others), Santa Anita (two), Sunland, and Tampa Bay (three). There are several plays Saturday that look interesting featuring first-timers, but we found one that may be overlooked because they’re “in cheap,” see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Fair Grounds, 6th Race, Maiden Claiming ($15,000), 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
This is a race where you can say “things went wrong” somewhere along the line for each of the thee BreezeFigs fillies entered. Easton Empress is the only one listed in the PP’s as having been in a 2-year-old sale because the other two, Golden Lullabye and Kaylie’s Boots, did not meet their reserves when they went through the ring. Even though Easton Empress sold for 52k at OBSAPR and is 5-to-1 in the morning line, her BreezeFigs profile was a poor, five-under-Par Group 4, though she did show a 24.78 foot stride length (SL), which was more than three-quarters of a length longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. Golden Lullabye worked at the same sale and posted a six-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a 25.45 foot SL, more than a foot and a half longer than average that day, but was not sold (RNA) for 14k and got hammered in October at her debut in Florida. Still, she’s listed at 3-to-1. On the outside is Kaylie’s Boots, who is at 12-to-1 but who showed the best slow-motion form of the three of these in her breeze at EASMAY where her four-over-Par Group 1 profile featured a 24.09 foot SL, about a third of a foot longer than average, despite which she was left unsold for 9.5k. Races like this can be profitable and we think Kaylie’s Boots is good enough to be your key; you might want to watch the board to see if the other two present gimmick play opportunities. Good luck!
