BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 30th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
Well, that was easy. Not only did our upset Pick scratch out of last week’s race, but so did the one with poor form, leaving the obvious odds-on BreezeFigs drop down, Leopardshill Road, to gallop off at 1-to-10. On that same Gulfstream card, one of our previous Pix, Gimlet, showed he is poised for good things in winning his second start, indicating once again that one should pay attention to our previous Pix because so many of them win their second start. Also, R Girl’s a Charmer, who has figured into two of our Pix, won her third start in a stake at Tampa Bay. Last week was a total mess because of the weather, but nine BreezeFigs maidens did get off the schneid, four of them at Gulfstream, three at Santa Anita and two at Tampa Bay—places where the snow doesn’t fall (usually). Weather forecasts notwithstanding, we’ll stick with sunshine this week for our Pick, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick: Gulfstream Park, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
First of all, there is a glitch in the card for this race—Space Mountain appears and he should not because he is making his fifth start and the program is supposed to cut entries off after four starts—it’s fixed now. We would not have picked him anyway based on his form and very short stride length (21.88 feet) at FTFMAR. Rather, we like Super Stan here to possibly score an upset in his debut if he is not rushed into early contention. He posted a solid three-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR where his 24.20 foot SL was a foot longer than average that day for colts at a quarter mile. Our Way is making his fourth start, and his two on the turf were promising indicators of his four-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSMAR where his 24.46 foot SL was about a third of a foot longer than average that day at one furlong. He’s got the experience here and is a definite gimmick shot but we think Super Stan is a better horse and should be your key. Good luck!
