BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, January 29, 2022 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
It was a case of polar opposites for our Pix last week—much too fast and much too slow. Our Aqueduct Pick was fried on the lead which featured a 21-and-change opening quarter and our Santa Anita Pick was much too slow getting out of the gate. Otherwise it was a banner day for BreezeFigs 3-year-old maidens as three of the five maiden races at Fair Grounds went to them. As for the rest of the day and week an additional eight winners came home at: Aqueduct, Delta Downs, another at Fair Grounds, Golden Gate, Laurel (BreezeFigs exacta) and Santa Anita (two). As for today’s card we are eschewing spots where dicey weather might pop up and hope the sun shines bright on out Pick, see below. Good luck and stay safe..
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Santa Anita, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
At 10-to-1 in the morning line, Banjo Queen looks like a must-play key based on her one-over-Par Group 2 performance at OBSAPR where her 24.37 foot stride length (SL) was two-thirds of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong—and she moved like she might favor the grass. The other BreezeFigs firster Midnight Silence breezed that same distance on a different day at that sale and tossed in a three-under-Par effort with a 23.26 foot SL, more than half a foot shorter than average that day. Ruby Ray did her thing at OBSMAR where her 10-under-Par Group 4 effort accompanied by a 21.61 foot SL has been proven quite correct in her first three starts. There you go, with Banjo. Good luck!
