BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 27, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore

We didn’t particularly care for the order in which they finished, but when five of the six horses in the field are BreezeFigs maidens and they finish 1-2-3-4-5, you can’t complain too much if you didn’t mix and match them the right way; even though we pointed out that Lombo had a chance perhaps you were smarter than us in that race at Santa Anita. On the other hand, Manhattan Project, our Pick at Gulfstream came through as a gimmick play when he stormed from the rear to be third to complete a trifecta and figure in the super. Otherwise seven other BreezeFigs maidens won besides Lombo: four at Gulfstream (including two BreezeFigs exactas, one each at Laurel, Oaklawn and Sam Houston. Saturday's card is eminently playable all over the country and we have thrown in a bonus in the form of a repeat Pick that was scratched out of its previous debut, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pix:

Fair Grounds, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Turf)

Three BreezeFigs fillies were entered here, one (Devine Mischief) is on the AE and is a stablemate of our Pick; the other (Mizz Fabulous) is MTO. We like neither. That leaves us with a very nice play in Smart Response, a filly who posted a five-over-Par Group 1 profile at EASMAY with a 24.38 foot stride length (SL), nearly a foot-and-a-quarter longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong, which helped prompt the crowd to bid her up to $525k. She is at a generous 7-to-2 in the morning line and looks like a smart all-around key.

Tampa Bay, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)

Three of the entries are BreezeFigs fillies, one of which, Humorous Song, made two appearances at the sales last year, and posted two opposite results. At OBSMAR she was a three-over-Par Group 1 number with a 24.57 foot SL, which was more than a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. Yet, she did not sell (RNA) at 55k, and was wheeled back at OBSJUN where she threw in a two-under-Par Group 3 performance with a decent 24.29 foot SL that was more than half-a-foot longer than average that day. Even though she only sold for 60k that day, the SL similarities point her out as the best of the three BreezeFigs fillies in here. Sugar Bow, the other first-timer, posted an even-par Group 2 at OBSAPR at a quarter mile, but her 23.07 foot SL was three-quarters of a foot shorter than average that day at the distance. Battle Back Curly chalked up a one-over-Par Group 2 at OBSJUN with a 24.99 foot SL, a foot longer than average that day at a furlong—she tired in her debut. The latter two are good gimmick plays but Humorous Song looks like a key.

BONUS Pick:

Santa Anita, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight (Cal-Breds), 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)

Paraphrased from January 6th BreezeFigs Pix: Karmic Affinity gets in here on the outside at 15-to-1 is worth a shot. She comes out of OBSAPR with a five-over-Par Group 1 profile and even though her 23.16 foot stride length (SL) was just a tad above average for fillies that day at a furlong, against this bunch she has enough speed so that she can settle in and close. Nice gimmick play. Good luck!
