BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, January 20, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Both our Pix last week got into gimmicks as we hoped—just not quite what we wanted. Tringale got bounced around but managed to get up to complete the super at Fait Grounds, while Core Beliefs and Jimmy Chila completed the trifecta and super at Santa Anita. Ten BreezeFigs maidens won last week and two others who were on the cards won stakes races. The maiden winners came at Aqueduct (BreezeFigs exacta), Fair Grounds (three), Gulfstream (four), Oaklawn and Tampa Bay; the stakes winners at Aqueduct and Oaklawn. Saturday's card is all over the place with two possibilities for you to consider, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Gulfstream Park, 12th Race, Maiden Claiming ($20,000), 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)
Manhattan Project blew off the doors at OBSJUN with a seven-over-Par Group 1 ticket that featured a 24.38 foot stride length (SL), just above average for colts that day at a furlong. However, he only sold for 22k, and is in here for 20k, which considering his pedigree indicates he’s not exactly Derby material. Still, he could be a solid gimmick play in this bunch. On the other hand, Kahuna posted a nine-under-Par Group 4 profile at OBSAPR with a 23.39 foot SL, more than half foot under average that day, and was not sold (RNA) at 7k; his 30-to-1 morning line looks justifiable.
Santa Anita, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Five of the six entries are BreezeFigs maidens in here, two of which, Show Time Rocket and Masked, are first timers from Baffert’s barn. Ironically, Masked, whose one-over-Par Group 2 profile at EASMAY featured a 24.12 foot SL (same as the average) is favored over Show Time Rocket, whose five-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR sported a 24.70 foot SL, more than three-quarters-of-a-foot longer than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. The latter is on the rail and might not be able to get out of his own way if not clear early and even though he cost 400k as opposed to Masked’s 150k, backstretch wags may have the ticket here—they might be worth a box. The other three have run already, all unimpressively, though Route Sixty Six and Lombo both look like they could be gimmick plays based on their very similar OBSMAR profiles—check them out on the card. Good luck!
