BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, January 1, 2022 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
And a Happy New Year to you, too. Today’s card is for those horses who breezed at the 2021 sales, and are now officially 3-year-olds. The 2020 sales cards will no longer be published because those horses are now 4-year-olds and very few of them are left to break their maidens. During the week five 2021 BreezeFigs 2-year-old maidens won at Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, Tampa Bay (two), and Santa Anita and now go on as 3-year-olds to try to prove their worth. Today’s card has several interesting plays, two of which look especially decent, see both below. Good luck and stay safe..
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Aqueduct, 2nd Race, Maiden Claiming ($40g), New York-Breds, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Majestic Spirit enters this race as part of an entry and as the lone BreezeFigs filly in here. If she has held the form she displayed at EASMAY last year where she plowed through a four-over-Par Group 1 breeze with a 24.47 foot stride length (SL)—which was three-quarters of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong—then she should be very competitive and perhaps worth keying. If, of course, she stays in.
Santa Anita Park, 2nd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt_
The cleverly named Queen of Thorns comes in here sporting a five-over-Par Group 1 record from OBSAPR where her 24.98 foot SL was more than a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a quarter mile. The other BreezeFigs filly, Manorelli, chalked up a one-under-Par Group 3 ticket at OBSMAR with a 22.99 foot SL, a half-foot shorter than average that day at a furlong—but she was scratched (SCR) from the sale right after that and pooped out in her debut. You won’t get a hefty return on Queen of Thorns, but she is well-worth her 8-to-5 morning line. Good luck!
