BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
In retrospect, our Pix last week were not far off the mark. Red Curls was off the board at Tampa Bay but was beaten only two lengths for the win, and Multiplier got left at Fair Grounds but closed strongly to be nosed out of the exacta. Tab both back. Ten BreezeFigs maidens crossed the wire first during the week: Aqueduct (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta); Delta Downs, Fair Grounds (two), Golden Gate, Laurel, Penn National, Santa Anita and Tampa Bay. Saturday's card has a number of first-timers with decent prospects, and we think there’s one that looks ripe for picking, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Tampa Bay, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
Three of the four BreezeFigs fillies in here are first-timers and the other one ran creditably in her debut, so it looks like a number of gimmick opportunities could exist. Of the firsters, Gulf View is likely to be the one to beat because of her toney connections and her fancy 300k sale price at OBSMAR where she tossed in a two-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a just above average 23.77 foot stride length (SL). Pangi chalked up a three-over-Par Group 1 number at the less fashionable OBSJUN with a 24.31 foot SL that was nearly a foot longer than average for fillies that day at a furlong. Gray Nicole put in an even-Par Group 1 effort at OBSAPR with a 23.23 foot SL, about a third-of-a-foot below average for fillies that day at a furlong—and went home unsold (RNA) for 47k. Credit Alert also breezed at OBSAPR and chalked up a one-over-Par Group 2 score with a 23.35 foot SL, almost a third-of-a-foot below average for fillies that day at a quarter mile. She was a pain to load in her debut which might have wasted energy—hopefully she will behave today. This one is really tough but we think you have to key Gulf View and we favor Pangi more strongly than the other two for gimmick purposes, but you may want to consider the other two as you, and the board, see fit. Good luck!
