BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, February 20, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
The weather has done everyone and everything a nasty turn in the past 10 days including our Pix last week at Fair Grounds, both of whom were scratched. Cards across the country were affected during the weekend and week resulting in only eight BreezeFigs maidens winning at: Aqueduct, Fair Grounds (a BreezeFigs exacta), Gulfstream (four, including a BreezeFigs trifecta), Tampa Bay and Turf Paradise. Today’s card is likely to be impacted by weather as well, but we found two potential plays that might offer some return, see below. Stay safe and good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
Laurel Park, 9th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)
Pharoah’s Fury had two chances to be sold last year but failed to sell at both sales. First he posted an even-Par Group 2 ticket at EASMAY with a basically average 24.30 stride length (SL), and left the ring with an RNA (not sold) tag of 135k. He came back at OBSJUN with a one-over-Par Group 2 effort that featured a 24.34 foot SL on synthetic, almost identical to the EASMAY on dirt, and was unsold for 120k. He has a lot of speed but needs the right timing and is a gimmick play at best.
Santa Anita, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Turf)
This may be the most bizarre statistical coincidence we’ve ever seen in this column but we double checked and it’s true. Both Nobu and Tony Ann breezed at OBSAPR on consecutive days. Each posted an even-Par Group 2 ticket at a quarter mile with the same BreezeFig. Nobu had a 25.12 foot SL and Tony Ann a 25.00 foot SL—and each was three-fifths of a foot longer than average that day for fillies at a quarter mile. The only difference between them is that Tony Ann did not make it to the ring after she breezed—she was scratched (SCR) from the sale. These two are logical gimmick plays and if the board says so, maybe more. Good luck!
