As Oliver would say to Stanley, “Well, this is another fine mess you’ve gotten me into.” Reference in our case of course is to our Pick last week which came off the grass onto the soupy Gulfstream Park main surface and threw our prognostications into the air. That was until our key, Midnight Oasis, and our gimmick play, Traveling, wound up swimming into third and fourth at the wire to complete small, but eminently cashable, payoffs. Indeed, the mess continued most of the week in all locales where rain on both coasts and horrifying freeze downs in the middle played havoc with cards. But in the end, ten BreezeFigs maidens came through to win at: Aqueduct (two), Fair Grounds, Gulfstream (two), Mahoning Valley, Oaklawn, Parx and Tampa Bay (two). Saturday's card offers several interesting plays, and we are departing from our usual format to give you two of them but one is a sort of condensed quickie, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pix:

Gulfstream Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)

Palomita is on the outside and making her debut, and her $375k sales price and trainer no doubt contributed to the 5-to-2 morning line. But she might be worth it based on her five-over-Par Group 2 effort at FTFMAR where her 23.74 foot stride length (SL) was more than half foot shorter than average for fillies that day at a furlong. Why pick her? She’s a nice prospect and may simply outclass this bunch. New Rules is making her second start and is possibly 9-to-2 based on her connections because her debut was not very good but she did OK at two sales last year. At OBSAPR her even-Par Group 2 effort featured a 23.48 foot SL, more than half foot shorter than average that day—and she was not sold (RNA) at 29k. But she came back at OBSJUN with a six -over-Par Group 1 effort that showed a 24.25 foot SL, almost a half-foot longer than average, and sold for 40k. These two need to be looked at and we think Palomita is a good key and New Rules merits gimmick consideration.

Santa Anita Park, 5th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 Furlongs (Dirt)

This is our “quickie.” There are five BreezeFigs colts in here, two of which have started and have not warmed out hearts, three of which are first-timers, one of which you really ought to look at closely. That would be Polar, 4-to-1 on the rail. His three-over-par Group 1 effort at a quarter mile at BARMAR featured a 25.27 foot SL, three-quarters of a foot longer than average. This could be a nice colt, key him. Good luck!
