We’re back after a week of horse business in Argentina (where you should go sometime, fascinating country, fun racing). While we were gone, BreezeFigs maidens continued to impress in the number of winners, with 11 coming in the past week alone, at: Aqueduct, Charles Town, Gulfstream, Laurel, Oaklawn (three), Parx, Santa Anita (BreezeFigs exacta) and Tampa Bay (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta). And in two weeks the first 2-year-old sale of this year will take place at Gulfstream (FTFMAR), and so the circle continues. Saturday's card is loaded with opportunities, and there’s one that could toss up a surprise, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here’s Saturday’s Pick:

Gulfstream Park, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)

This one is almost inscrutable because one of the first-times, Cash Hines, is such a standout on his BreezeFigs profile that it’s amazing he’s 15-to-1 in the morning line. The son of Candy Ride (ARG) breezed in two sales last year, first at FTFMAR where he posted a two-over-Par Group 1 ticket with a 24.97 foot stride length (SL) which was almost a foot longer than average for colts that day at one eighth on the dirt—but he was scratched (SCR) before the auction started, maybe because of a slight injury. He came back at OBSJUN to post another Group 1 effort, this one six-over- Par with a 25.93 foot SL—more than two feet longer than average for colts that day at an eighth on synthetic, and he was sold for 390k. Maybe his owner-trainer’s record works against him but he is clearly the best on paper of the first timers. At the same OBSJUN sale another firster by the same sire, Glencairn, posted a two-under Par Group 4 ticket with a 23.93 foot SL, just above average that day. Might be playable in the gimmicks. The third firster, Dr. Corday, comes out of FTFMAR with a one-under Park Group 3 profile and a 23.41 foot SL—more than half-foot shorter than average that day. The other two BreezeFigs horses may vie for favoritism, though on the numbers one would wonder why Wannabeaplayer would qualify. He posted a horrible 13-under-Par Group 4 profile at FTFMAR with a 21.93 foot SL—more than two feet shorter than average that day—and was scratched before the auction. Like Cash Hines, he reappeared at OBSJUN where his two-under Par Group 3 profile featured an almost identical 21.96 foot SL—two feet below average. Yet, he was well played in his debut here at the same distance and on the turf, and he got beat a neck. He has a short but efficient stride which some horses can use in conditions such as these to be competitive. Hieroglyphics, on the other hand, comes out of OBSMAR with a three-over-Par Group 1 profile and a 24.57 foot SL, more than half-foot longer than average that day. He stunk out the joint in his debut at Saratoga, but his 450k sales price indicates there is probably talent there. On their debuts, Wannabeaplayer and Hieroglyphics are solid gimmick plays, and you might want to toss in Glencairn. But—please don’t moan—we think Cash Hines should be your key. Good luck!
