Last week's pick was a stinker. Sorry. We still can't figure it out. Maybe we can make it up to you this week with two Pix.

We gave you Stalwart Woodsman in his debut, and he ran creditably but weakened. He was a Group 2 RNA at KEEAPR where he worked on the turf and showed an absolutely astonishing 26 foot stride length. Even though we would rather see him on the turf, he might well be worth throwing into the gimmicks. Another to consider for the gimmicks off his first start is Red Missile. Even though he was a so-so Group 3 at EASMAY with a short stride length, his debut was promising and he showed something a lot of his sire's first crop have shown--guts.

Santa Anita, , Maiden Special, 6 1/2 Furlongs, Turf

If she gets in off the AE's, Montara looks like she might finally break her maiden. She's had two rough trips, but if she can settle from an outside post early, she might be able to use that 25.27 foot stride length she showed in her turf breeze at KEEAPR, which earned a whopping 10 point over Par BreezeFig. Pounce if in.
