BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, December 22, 2018, by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
Our Pick last week is better left without comment except that we were woefully wrong. Still, it wasn’t a bad week at all for BreezeFigs maidens as 11 of them won at seven tracks with a couple of BreezeFigs exactas along the way. The winners came at Aqueduct (BreezeFigs exacta), Fair Grounds, Laurel (two), Los Alamitos (three), Tampa Bay (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Turfway and Woodbine. Saturday's card is really interesting but weather could interfere with expected form. Thus, we’ve given you a Christmas bonus with two races at the same track, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick:
Gulfstream Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 ½ Furlongs (Dirt)
The only BreezeFigs entrant, Tapit’s Princess, a 500k FTFMAR purchase, is listed at 5-to-2 in the morning line and although we are not particularly pleased that she’s in a sprint, this is a filly with lots of potential to go on to make black type noise. She chalked up a five-over-Par Group 1 profile at the sale with a 24.81 foot stride length (SL) which was about a half foot longer than average for fillies that day. Nice key.
Gulfstream Park, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 5 Furlongs (Turf)
Two BreezeFigs first timers in here, both with in double digit morning line odds. Ironically, the one we like, Higgins, comes out of FTFMAR just like Tapit’s Princess in the previous race with a very similar 24.98 foot SL also about half a foot longer than average that same day for colts; but he was scratched (SCR) before they went into the ring. This is a really nice horse who might also need some more distance, but worth a shot. Sharetheblame comes out of OBSJUN with a four-under-Par Group 3 profile but his 24.50 foot SL was about average for colts that day at a quarter mile. He is on the rail in a tough spot for a sprint, and if they pound his odds, he might be a gimmick play, otherwise pass and see how you can play Higgins. Good luck!
