Our Pick last week, Red Venus, may have moved too soon but then she was up against what appears to have been a pretty tough field including a million dollar yearling winner. Still, we’d tab her back next time with her experience. Meanwhile 15 BreezeFigs juveniles broke their maidens last week at: Aqueduct, Charles Town, Delta, Fair Grounds, Golden Gate, Gulfstream (six, including a BreezeFigs exacta), Hawthorne, Los Alamitos (two, including a BreezeFigs exacta), and Tampa Bay. In addition, four won stakes races including both ends of the New York Stallion Stakes. Today’s card is rich in potential but we couldn’t resist a possible parlay play, see below. Fair Grounds, 6th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)

This is the filly division of the maiden races today and there are three BreezeFigs fillies in here, two of which are first timers. We like the best named horse of the crop, Readyformycloseup, who posted a three-over-Par Group 2 profile at OBSAPR with a basically average 24.68 foot stride length (SL) at a quarter mile and did it nicely. A day earlier Skye Snow posted a one-under Par Group 3 ticket at the same distance with a 25.20 foot SL, which was almost a foot longer than average, but she was scratched (SCR) from the sale after that so this sale doesn’t show in your PP’s. Super Legs has made two starts off her three-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSJUN where her 24.33 foot SL was about a third of a foot longer than average at an eighth. She was bothered in her last but seemed to run out of gas in her debut. We’d key in on Readyformycloseup and toss Skye Snow into gimmicks in this event.

Fair Grounds, 8th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 6 Furlongs (Dirt)Shake Some Action

The colts get their shot in here and once again there are three BreezeFigs graduates in here, two of which—Shake Some Action and F F Rocket—are making their debut. Both of them deserve a close look. Shake Some Action posted a four-over-Par Group 1 at OBSMAR with a 25.45 foot SL, a foot longer than average that day for colts at a furlong. He was not sold (RNA) however at 395k. He was wheeled back at EASMAY where he threw in a stinker—a three-under-Par Group 4 effort at a quarter mile with a 23.10 foot SL, three-quarters of a foot shorter than average that day for colts at the distance. Yet, he was sold for 300k. Go figure. F F Rocket had a solid two-over-Par Group 2 effort at OBSAPR with a 25.51 foot SL, almost a foot longer than average that day at a furlong. Ready to Roll breezed on a different day at that sale and came back with a two-under-Par Group 3 ticket and a 24.50 foot SL, a fifth of a foot shorter than average that day. He tired in his debut. We really like Shake Some Action despite his poor EASMAY profile and we also like F F Rocket—so you might want to watch the board and see if you’d want to key one or the other, or both. Good luck!
