BreezeFigs Quick-Pix Saturday, December 18, 2021 by Bob Fierro & Jay Kilgore
After our Aqueduct Pick was burned to a crisp in the first half mile we were still surprised that Dream Pire, our Remington Pick later that night, went off at 19-to-1—but very pleased when she finished second to complete a $199 exacta and fill out all the gimmicks nicely. Otherwise it was a fairly quiet week for BreezeFigs maidens—half a dozen of them won at Aqueduct, Gulfstream (two), Oaklawn, Parx and Remington. Four 3-year-olds got home on top at Aqueduct, Los Alamitos, Parx and Tampa Bay. NOTE: This is the last week that we’ll be picking 3-year-olds—they will drop from the menu on New Year’s Day, which happens to be on a Saturday. The 2021 sales will be the only ones available until Spring. Meanwhile, we are giving you a freebie of sorts for the 3-year-olds today as only one made the list, and even though he’s not a first-timer, he could do, along with our 2-year-old Pick, see both below. We may not have a column next week depending on which tracks are going to be open on Christmas Day; if not, have a happy and stay safe.
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pix:
2-Year-Olds:
Gulfstream Park, 1st Race, Maiden Special Weight,, 5 Furlongs (Turf)
Four BreezeFigs colts in here, two of them first-timers, one of which is on the AE list. Bourbon Ready is listed as the 5-to-2 morning line favorite in here and he deserves it based on his three-over-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSMAR where his 24.81 foot stride length (SL) was a half-foot longer than the average for colts that day at a quarter mile. Icing is on the AE list and if he draws in his six-over-Par Group 1 profile at OBSAPR would be good enough for him to challenge Bourbon Ready given his 24.16 foot SL was about a fifth-of-a-foot longer than average that day at a furlong.. Both Straight Time and Jest Above need to show much more to get into the gimmicks here so you can key Bourbon Ready and Icing, if he gets in.
3-Year-Olds
Turfway Park, 3rd Race, Maiden Claiming ($30g), Six Furlongs (Synthetic)
House Wrecker has shown enough in his first two starts to justify keying in here based on his even-Par Group 2 ticket at OBSJUN last year where his 24.12 foot SL was a half-foot longer than average that day. Good luck!
