BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, December 12th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore

webmaster|Dec 11, 2015

When Mr. Louise was scratched last week, it left the door wide open to our Pix co-choice Zulu to prove our point—and for our “saver,” Sharp Azteca, to run a solid debut as well to complete a $20.60 BreezeFigs exacta at Gulfstream. At Laurel later, the Marylander Stakes resulted in a more modest BreezeFigs exacta as Vorticity beat Never Gone South for a $10 payoff. Six other BreezeFigs maidens got off the schneid during a week when not too many races were carded—one each at Fair Grounds, Los Alamitos, Parx, Penn, Turf Paradise and a second at Gulfstream. This week we’re giving you a twofer, see below. Good luck!

If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.

Here are Saturday’s Pix:

Fair Grounds, 13th Race, Maiden Special Weight, (Louisiana-Breds) 6 Furlongs (Dirt)

One Last Cigarette makes his debut here against state-breds after posting an even-Par Group 2 BreezeFigs profile at the competitive OBSMAR sale where his stride length (SL) of 24.18 feet was just above average for colts that day at a quarter mile. On the same day Landing Eagle posted a four-under-Par Group 3 profile with a 22.55 foot SL, about a foot and a half shorter than average for colts at one eighth. We’d key One Last Cigarette here.

Gulfstream Park, 7th Race, Maiden Special Weight, 7 ½ Furlongs (Turf)

This is an unusual bonus Pick: Eight BreezeFigs maidens in this race, three of them first time starters, two of them basically co-favorites, both of them out of Todd Pletcher’s barn. On the rail is Gimlet, who posted a one-over-Par Group 1 profile on synthetic at OBSMAR where his 24.65 foot SL was a half-foot longer than average for colts that day at one eighth. Kismet’s Heels threw in an even Par Group 2 profile on the dirt on this track at FTFMAR, but his 22.90 foot SL was more than a foot below average for colts that day at a furlong. Kismet’s Heels sold for $900k as opposed to Gimlet’s $160k price tag. Go figure. The other firster, More Alex, posted a seven-under-Par Group 3 profile at OBSMAR with a 22.67 foot SL that was a foot-and-a-half shorter than average for colts that day at a quarter mile. Of the ones that have started, we might throw Cast Iron into the mix, but we like Gimlet a lot and if he can stay out of trouble he should be your key with Kismet’s Heels a gimmick chance. Good luck!
